When is it time to upgrade your phone?
The majority of adults and especially younger people today possess a smartphone –θήκες κινητών– among other things. The fact that you buy a smartphone which is of medium to high quality, does not mean that it will last forever. This is a common misconception that many people believe in. Your smartphone will be outdated sometime in the future. And by future we mean 3 to 4 years.
Keep reading our article if you are interested to find out when is it time to upgrade your phone? We are going to discuss the various reasons why someone would rank their phone as “old” or unfit to fulfill its purpose. If one of the categories mentioned below fits your phone this does not necessarily mean you need to change your phone but a combination of more than two is kind of a red flag for your phone.
Have you noticed that your battery percentage is dropping very quickly? Does your phone perform a restart every now and then? These two are signs that your battery life is significantly harmed by the years of use or by the wrong way of charging your phone. Usually, you should not let your battery drop below 20% because this harms the battery health. Some devices like iPhone -which have had a lot of issues with their batteries– come with a built in app which calculates the exact percentage of your current battery life.
Knowing the health and condition of your battery is very important. You certainly can replace your battery if this is the only thing wrong with your phone in order to keep your device. Sometimes though, it is not worth it as today you can easily find decent smartphones which cost 90-120 euros, while a battery will cost you something between 30-80 euros. You get the point.
The speed of your phone in the second year of use will not be the same as it was when you bought it. This is completely normal as the phones wear off depending on the use and condition. For people who are using their phone 7 hours a day and even more, this is normal. The storage capacity plays a major role too in this section. When you overload your phone, the speed will drop.
Having many applications open in the background while you are surfing on the internet or being logged into Facebook will delay your activity. This is why you need to leave some free space on your phone, so that you will be able to download the next software update and that your phone will not be working slowly.
No updates available
The newest smartphones will not have a lot of issues with the updates that are released. But sometimes the manufacturers stop releasing updates for older models like for example on the Samsung Gallaxy III ( model of 2013) which was released with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the users were able to upgrade until the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Any newest versions were not supported by this model.
The same goes for many other models and manufacturers, so in case you need the phone with the latest version of software, you need to either upgrade every two years or buy a phone which is known to support the latest software upgrades. Lately companies like Apple, Samsung and Huaweii are revealing in which phones they will allow the latest software download. If you research a little bit you will know
Apps are crashing
Sometimes when your phone is older than 2 years, some apps will be crashing. This might be happening for two reasons; they either need an update or the system is overloaded and can not take anything else. The updates that are available at the App store or Google play are usually addressing the newest softwares. So, if your phone does not support the newest software upgrade it will not allow you to get the most recent version of an app.
This will make things difficult because many bugs are not going to be fixed and eventually you will not be able to use this app again. Some apps will not allow you to use them if your phone does not support the newest update.
This is not a very important point in upgrading your phone as when you buy a smartphone you are taking into consideration the camera quality. However, if you feel that your camera does not meet your expectations anymore, you will need to upgrade your phone. 2020 smartphones have presented massive changes in their cameras as they come with not one but up to 4 cameras per smartphone.
The multiple cameras are giving you the chance to take beautiful pictures and videos with an amazing quality and detail. So if you are using your device as a camera too, an upgrade is necessary.
Damaged screen or tear and wear
Last but definitely not least, any significant and visible damage to your phone is a main component for the upgrade. When your phone’s screen is shattered or even cracked, a minor fall will cause it to completely lose the capacity of the touch screen. A phone that you are not even able to type and call a number is practically useless.
You need to take care of your mobile phone and add a case to it – thiki kinitou – so that it will last as long as possible! Nevertheless, a cracked screen is an important reason to upgrade as the repair will cost you as much as a new smartphone will!
